I've always been intrigued by press-on nails. They used to be the worst, most tacky and perverse makeup accessory - is that an accurate description? - I could think of but in recent years, press-on nails have made a really classy comeback, especially design-wise.
My local drugstore recently started carrying a few Fing'rs Prints press-on nails and I kinda fell for the Girlie Glam ones. Hawaiian flowers, tips and a pretty nude pink? Sign me up!
Picture time!
Can you say "gorgeous"?! Well, the happiness that came with having beautiful, symmetrical, glossy nails and elongated fairy fingers was short-lived. Two hours, to be exact.
As you can see on the box, Fing'rs claims these press-ons can last up to a week. Ummm... no.
I followed the instructions to a tee: clean nails, with no hand cream or soap residue, press on for at least 15 seconds, etc, etc. Let's face it, this isn't rocket science. I did as instructed.
At first, the nails did seem to hold on properly. They felt a bit bulky on my fingers but not to a point where I felt uncomfortable.
However, I tried typing with them and that proved near impossible. Maybe because I'm just not used to having nails this long, maybe because nobody can easily type with nails this long.
After two hours in which I didn't not do anything remotely hard on the nails (opening soda cans or the like), I was having dinner when I noticed that a few nails were lifting up from where I'd stuck them. No amount of pressing them back on got them to stick again. I hadn't even washed my hands in the two hours I wore them!
I decided I wasn't going to run around with half-glued nails that were threatening to come off any second, so I took them all off again.
The instructions say to soak them in soapy water for ten minutes before removing them, something that proved completely unnecessary. Save for two nails, I was able to peel them all of just like that, with no damage whatsoever to my own nails (thankfully, though this does speak volumes about the sticking abilities of these press-ons).
I was quite worried they'd come off at the first shower - the equivalent to soaking in soapy water for 10 minutes, I mean: who doesn't shower for a week, the supposed maximum time-frame these last?! - but it didn't even come to that.
I'm really not sure how any of this was supposed to work, all I know is it didn't. These retail at 6,95€ for 24 nails and two stick-on charms. As beautiful as they are, I can't recommend these. At all.
Stay beautiful, inside and out,
Anna
