Hello all you beautiful souls! So glad to be back, sometimes these pesky things known as life and work get in the way :D
I'm back with my next Hunger Games Series look, this time we're dealing with District 11, which is the agriculture district in Panem. Rue is from that district, the sweet little girl that teams up with Katniss in the 74th Hunger Games and whose death and Katniss' subsequent "burial" ignite the riots across Panem.
This look comes with a very special guest model: my Mum Eve! She hasn't read the books but she loves the films and when she saw that I was doing a Hunger Games Series for Anna's Makeup Oasis, she volunteered as tribute.
Here's what we came up with!
District 11 is described in the books as being a place with orchards and fields aplenty. At the same time, it's the poorest district in Panem after District 12, because its citizens are forced to give away all that they reap, leaving them with little but the bare essentials to survive themselves.
I wanted the look to reflect both the grain production and the orchards, because those are mentioned several times in the book. As such, you have the lips - done with OCC's Cha-Cha Lip Tar on the bottom and a mix of green pigments and eyeshadows on the top - who evoke a peach.
The rest of the look is kept in mainly in varying shades of brown, for tilled earth, tree trunks and grain. There are bursts of green for growing life and the meadow in which Rue was laid to rest and an asymmetrical pop of wild yellow for the sun under which District 11's citizens toil all day. This perfecting touch was actually an idea of my Mum and it has become my favourite part of the look!
I used a Sephora palette for a lot of the shades but also Urban Decay's Naked palette, especially the shade Darkhorse. I love how all the shades positively glowed in the sunlight, as seen in the first collage! I left my Mum's brows natural and didn't use mascara because I wanted the look to be editorial but not artificial-looking.
The ears of grain were painted on using a dark brown liquid liner by ELLE and filled in with a mix of essence pigments.
The yellow eyeshadow is Raps by Kosmetik Kosmo, the hands-down best yellow eyeshadow I've ever come across. Matte, super pigmented, super smooth, buildable: a dream eyeshadow, especially considering how very, very hard it is to get a yellow eyeshadow just right.
One more picture that I chose simply because when I went through the pics, my first instinct was to delete it because the framing and pose were all wrong and then something stopped me: her eyes. Those eyes. I mean, I know my Mama has amazing eyes. But seeing them in this pic was just breathtaking. So although it's a weird pic, I'm sharing it here. Because you need to really see those wonderful peepers of hers as well. This shot is straight-out-of-camera, no alterations whatsoever.
Can you say "HASHTAG NO FILTER"?!
I'll see you soon with some exciting new looks and reviews!
May the odds be ever in your favour,
Anna
